Ashton Kerr

Ashton, resident of St. Donat, Quebec, formerly of Westmount, Quebec died peacefully in hospital on April 8, 2004 at the age of 88 after suffering a heart attack. He is survived by his wife Gaetane (Labonte) Kerr of Granby, daughter Madeleine (Dave Shanteau), son Pierre (Anne Tufts), grandchildren, Heather and Robert; sons Richard and Andre, sister, Ethel (John Steljes) of Deep River, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert (Nellie Shaw) Kerr of Lachine. Ashton achieved his military pre-war medical training through the Canadian Officer-in-Training program at McGill. He became a medical doctor and enlisted, volunteering for immediate service on loan to the British as a parachutist and doctor in 1941. He served a year in Palestine. When he returned to Montreal he worked at the Queen Mary Veterans Hospital, and was the Director at the Reddy Memorial Hospital. He also worked as a Medical Director for Canadian Pacific.A memorial service will be held in Montreal at a future date. Many thanks to the staff and doctors at the Ste. Agathe Hospital.
